This is Togo
He is a neutered Male, 3 years old, Housetrained, Crate Trained, Lead Trained, has Obedience training, good with Children, good with Small Children, good with Large Dogs, good with Small Dogs, has Rabies vaccinations, has DHLPP vaccinations, microchipped.Togo is a 3-year-old Malamute mix who we adopted from the Oakland Animal Shelter a little over a year ago. The shelter thought that he will be fine with our cats, but unfortunately, he has a high prey drive and is an opportunist. He can ignore the cats for a little while when I'm right there but when the opportunity arises, he will go after them.
We have tried everything but at this point I need to admit that this situation is not sustainable, and I need to find a new home for Togo before something terrible happens - we had too many close calls and one of our cats is oblivious to the danger and walks right to him. We have done excessive training with him, even hired a professional trainer but although helpful it did not solve our problem. He has caught and killed small critters before so I believe he will do the same if he catches a cat, so he cannot be in a home with cats or other prey animals.
Other than his prey drive he is the perfect dog. Togo is GREAT with other dogs and children. He is gentle with my 6 yr. old although I wouldn't leave them unsupervised. He is still a bit mouthy but has gotten much better. We worked with him on basic commands, he walks well on a leash, only needs a few corrections, and has not shown any aggression towards other dogs (big or small) or people. He sleeps in a crate in my bedroom at night and currently spends most of the time in our large yard but comes inside. He is housetrained but I would watch him a bit - he is known to have eaten a book or two. He loves playing with our other dog (a lab mix) and can entertain himself playing ball and tossing it himself. He is not interested in jumping fences but has dug under the fence once, so I poured concrete under the fence. I trained him to respond to the beeping and vibrating of a collar (we don't use shock), so he is great off leash on our regular visits to Point Isabel.
I have not seen him get along with any other dog, so he would be a perfect second dog.
